Summoning a Circle

This ritual is used before the first time a room or area is to be used as a Temple. This summons a Circle of light and Protection around the room and announces to the Gods of your intention to dedicate this space as a Temple to their honor.

Tools Needed:
One candle for each God and Goddess that you wish to include tea lights or votives in glass holders are best to use as they take a shorter time to burn out.
Salt and a Sage smudge stick
An Athame
Matches or a lighter

Light the smudge stick and wave it around the area you are using. This will drive out all negative energies and cleanse the area. To put out the smudge stick, place it burning end down into a deep dish of salt, pushing it into the salt until no more smoke can be seen. Remove the smudge stick, making sure it is extinguished and set it aside for future use in other rituals. Take the salt and sprinkle it around the perimeter of the area, with the exception of a 'doorway' just wide enough for you to walk through.
Kneel in front of the opening, on the outside of the circle and say:

"I kneel in submission at the door of your temple.
I ask that you allow me
to enter this, your most holy sanctuary.
It is my desire to give praise
and to worship at your altar.
Within the realm of your arms,
I know I shall find peace.
I enter now only through your grace
or by my own death."

Stand up and enter the Circle, immediately turning and filling in the doorway with salt to create an unbroken circle around your space. If you can walk through the doorway without any feelings of danger or fear, you will be allowed to create a Temple in this place. If you feel any fear or sense anything wrong, stop what you are doing immediately. Try again another day or in another place. If you have entered the space without fear or any sense of danger, then you can proceed with this ritual.
Begin lighting the God and Goddess candles on your altar. As you light each one, welcome the Deity with words of praise, beginning with your chosen God and Goddess. For my personal God and Goddess, these words would be:

BAST
Most revered Lady, I light this candle in honor of your names; the eye of Ra, the eye of Tem, Goddess of the birth chamber, Mother of Khensu, Keeper of the thigh of Osiris. As the smoke from this flame rises, may it carry my prayers to your ears. I ask that you look upon me with gentle thoughts, knowing that all I do, I do in your name and for your glory. Please join me now within this space which I have created in your honor. May your name live forever in the hearts of men.

RA (or Amen Ra)
Honor to thee, Great and Powerful, Ra, who rests upon Ma'at. As you pass over the Heavens, every face can see thee, and thy rays fall upon every face. Thou art One, even as he that brings the food of life. Men praise thy name and swear by thee, for thou art Lord of them. You have seen with your eyes and heard with your ears the millions of years that have passed. You pass through and over untold spaces and have passed through them in peace while steering your way across the watery abyss to the place which you love. This you do in one moment of time and then you sink down and make an end of the hours. Please join me now in this Sacred Space that I have created in your honor and for your glory. May your name live forever in the hearts of men as it shall live forever in mine.

Continue lighting the candles for the other Gods and Goddesses that you have chosen

THOTH
To you who hath given all men the power of language and of the stars above. May I continue to be given access to your great texts and may your knowledge and words of power live for eternity.

When you have lit all the candles to the Gods and Goddesses you have chosen to use. Leave the candles lit and use your Athame to cut a doorway for yourself. Leave the Circle and wait several hours before entering it again. Keep a close eye on those candles though so they do not start an unwelcome fire. Once all the candles have burned out. Re-enter the Circle through the same doorway you had left by. Gather the remains of the candles and place them along with an offering in the place where you will have your balefire if outdoors, or into your cauldron if indoors. Light the balefire or a small fire within your cauldron during your first Ritual within this space to honor all your Gods and Goddesses.
