Day of Offerings to Sekhmet
Date: May 8

This is a ceremony in which each member of the Coven gives an offering to Sekhmet in order to appease her. If she is pleased, she will not send the fierce destructive heat of the sun to your crops. Sekhmet was called “The Mighty One” and is a sun Goddess who rules over war. Her temper is said to be uncontrollable.

Just before noon, your main statue of Sekhmet should be cleansed and placed upon the altar. When this has been done, begin by Casting your Sacred Space in your normal way. When you are ready to begin, the Temple Guardian should light the balefire. From the balefire, the High Priestess lights a red, engraved pillar candle to represent the Goddess Sekhmet.

A priestess should read the story of Sekhmet's attempt to destroy the world.

High priestess says:

We call to the Great Goddess Sekhmet.
And ask that she appear with us now.
Fair offerings we carry to give to her
That she might spare us
Her wrath by the heat of the day.

Each Coven member now takes a turn to toss their offering into the Balefire. As they do so, each should thank the Goddess in their own words, then take their personal candles and light them from the Goddess candle.

When everyone has lit their candles, the High Priest circles the group, snuffing out the personal candles. Each time he snuffs out a candle, he says to the holder of that candle:

May the Great Goddess bless you

And each person responds:

May the Coven be blessed

Once everyone’s candles have been snuffed out, Close your circle in your normal way.
