Ceremony of Nephthys

This ceremony takes place during a new moon and is best done outside. Nephthys is the Goddess of dark desires and hidden mysteries. Ceremonies performed in her name and under her circle of protection, on a new moon are not subject to any laws outside of her Temple. It is recommended that this ceremony only be done by two couples who are able to commit themselves to each other for a period of time.

It is not recommended for couples who are married to other people, or who have responsibilities, which would be placed in havoc if the details of this ceremony were to be made public. In other words, Don’t do this simply to have an affair. Use this ceremony wisely and with the complete consent of all people who might be affected.

Choose a site to perform this ritual where you and your partner shall not be disturbed until the next morning. A secluded campsite works perfectly. Decide together how much lighting you want to have, keeping in mind that there will be no light other than what you light yourself. If you must do this ritual indoors, then make sure to cover the windows and doorways with heavy blankets to make the room as dark as possible.

You may choose to use only a candle or two, or a Coleman lantern turned up high. If you are outdoors and it is chilly, feel free to light a bonfire. Set the mood by what lighting, music and decoration you choose. If you want romantic, then choose soft classical music and scented candles strategically placed throughout the area. If you want passion, choose heady classical pieces and red candles dedicated to Set. A good thunderstorm outside is a nice touch too, if you can pull that off.

Make sure to have something around the edge of your space to mark the boundary which the Goddess will use to cast her shadow of protection.

Start the Ceremony by comfortable reclining in the center of your space. If you have a fire, relax around it, if not, then place some snack foods in the center and relax around it. Spend this time eating, drinking and talking about what you plan to do. Try to have it well planned out, but still open to spontaneity. Share your deepest darkest fantasies with each other and plan to act them out. You can do anything that the two of you can agree on to do and feel safe, knowing that within the Circle of Nephthys, all vows are kept for the time period you set, and no one else, human or God, can know what went on for that time.

When you have your plan set in both of your minds. Go about preparing whatever needs to be set up in order to fulfill your plans. Move the food to the side, so that the center is open for your activities. Once all is ready, stand or kneel facing each other in the center of your space. Both of you should say together:

Great Goddess Nephthys, seal us within a circle
of your protection and cloth us in shadows
that none may see what we do
in your name and for your glory.

Clasp hands and slowly raise them from your sides out and up to the skies, while saying together:

As the shadows close around us,
sealing us behind the veil of our world,
we pledge ourselves to each other
in strength, in truth and in love.
We pledge ourselves to each other
and to you, Great Goddess Nephthys
until the light of Ra drives the shadows away.

Begin your chosen events safe within your circle of protection. Make sure you have provided for all your needs and that those provisions are within the boundaries you set. It is important to have a first aid kit, flashlight, snacks, beverages and somewhere to be able to go to the bathroom, all within your boundaries before you start this Ceremony.

If you must step outside of your boundaries, the Shadow of Protection will be broken and shall disappear. You can not create a doorway either, any human who crosses the boundary shall cause the shadows to disappear and you will no longer be protected. Exceptions are animals other than humans. They can cross as they wish with no harmful effects.

Once the both of you are completely exhausted, extinguish all your candles, bank the fire and snuggle up in each others arms and sleep till morning. Once the sun is up, your circle of Protection is over. The sunlight shall drive away the shadows and the protection of Nephthys as well. It is a good idea to pack away any items that don’t need to be seen by the light of day, before going to sleep.

The next morning, clean up your area and go back to your homes, or continue the Ceremony for another day. Don’t forget to say a simple but heartfelt:

Thank you, Great Goddess Nephthys.

The Ceremony has ended, and all memories must never be spoken of.
