Cast of Characters

Narrator
Horus
Ra
Shu
Thoth
Isis
Set
Neith
Anty the Feryyman
Osiris
Other Gods and Goddesses

Act One

Assemble within the Temple. Attempt to dress as close in character as possible.
Decorate as much or as little as you want. The settings are always natural places, in torchlight.
Place the Narrator, seated, off to one side. Choose a person who has a strong voice that carries well.
Set and Horus should be on opposite sides of the Campfire. Horus in the East and Set in the west.
Ra should stand to the north of the campfire, further away than Horus and Set.
The ‘Other Gods’ (coven members and guests) should sit on the perimeter to the south of the campfire.
Ra, Shu, Thoth, Isis, Neith, Anty and Osiris should stand in a circle around the perimeter. When they speak a line, they should walk forward a couple of steps.

This should be staged at night, with a campfire/balefire lit, and torches around the perimeter or as needed for lighting.

Narrator: The Great God Osiris is dead. He now becomes the Lord of the Underworld and Egypt is without a King. Two Gods have stepped forward to claim the throne. Horus, son of Osiris and Isis; and Set, Brother to Osiris. Which should be chosen?

Shu: Horus is the son of Osiris, the throne is rightfully his.

Ra: Horus is to young. Set is the brother of Osiris, he should be King.

Neith: Horus should be made King, as was his Father before him.

Set: I am the Great God Set. Each day, I fight Apophis to protect the barque of Ra. No one else can do this. I should be King.

Horus: I am Horus, son of the Great God Osiris and the Great Goddess Isis. I am the rightful heir.

Isis: My son should be King, it is rightfully his, a legacy from his Father, whom you killed.

God #1: Horus should be King!

God #2: Set should be King!

Thoth: Stop! We will never decide this matter like this.

Ra: We shall go to Central Island. Anty?

Anty the Ferryman: Yes, my Lord?

Ra: Make sure any woman who looks like Isis not cross the river.

Fade Out

Act Two

Daytime, sunrise is best. This can take place anywhere outside of the Temple. Having the sunrise in the background is a nice touch.

Fade In

Anty stands alone, leaning on an oar. Isis , disguised in a robe with hood pulled up, walks up to him. The face of Isis should always be in shadow.

Isis: Will you ferry me across to Central Island?

Anty: Ra said not to allow women across.

Isis: Didn't Ra say not allow any women who looked like Isis across?

Anty: Yes, he did.

Isis: Well? Do I look like Isis?

Anty: No. What will you give me to ferry you across?

Isis: I shall give you this gold ring.

Anty: I shall ferry you across.

Fade Out

Act Three

Fade In

Daytime. The Gods are sitting around the campfire. Horus and Set still on opposite sides, and Ra still between them to the side of the campfire. Everyone scattered around in chairs or on the ground. Scene should resemble a casual meeting. Isis, still completely covered with robe and hood walks up to fireplace to stand between Horus and Ra.

Isis: My Lords, I am a widow with only one son. My son now cares for our cattle. A stranger came to us and beat my son and took the cattle. I need someone to defend his rights.

Set: The cattle should not be given to a stranger when the son is alive.

Isis: (throws off the robe) You have condemned yourself by your words, Set.

Set: No, woman! You said stranger, not brother. That is different.

Thoth: Let Osiris decide.

Osiris: I am Osiris. I make you strong with Barley and Wheat. It is to me that the stars, the Gods and all life will eventually come. I rule the land of the dead. Let my son, Horus rule the land of the living.

Ra: It is true. Horus should be King.

If you are feeling adventurous, stage a mock sword battle, with Horus defeating Set. If not, just continue on with the lines.

Set: I am defeated.

Horus: (raises sword) I am King.
