Generic "Day of" Ritual

This Day of Celebration and Ritual begins at Sunrise and lasts through sunset, or begin at Moonrise and last through moonset, whichever is most appropriate for the God or Goddess being celebrated. Check the correspondences under each God/dess in the God Description section.

All members gather outside to watch the sun/moon rise together. It is not necessary to write a special prayer of praise for this time, but if you wish to, please do, alternatively, you can simply speak from your heart on the spur of the moment. Once the sun/moon is fully risen, everyone should take a few moments to silently give a prayer to the God/dess and then get cleaned up and fix breakfast.

Spend the day engaged in activities that will benefit the Coven as a whole, such as work on the Temple, constructing permanent guest shelters, replenishing the wood pile, gathering herbs and so forth. If the day becomes to warm for heavy work, then try more sedentary activities such as napping, discussion groups, seminars, craft work, reading, etc.

After the evening meal, everyone should assemble in the Temple, wearing their formal ritual robes and bringing with them a small offering of food and a candle of the appropriate color for the God/dess whose Day you are celebrating. Cast a formal Circle and light the balefire. Have a statue of the God/dess on the altar and an altar candle of the appropriate color. HP or HPS lights the candle from the Balefire while saying:

“We welcome the Great God/dess____________
Into this circle, which we have cast in your name and for your glory.”

Each person then comes forward and lights their personal candle from the altar candle while saying:

“I welcome the great God/dess _______
Into my heart and into my life.
May my soul whisper your name for eternity.”

The Hp or HPS invites the members to speak a few words of praise for this God/dess if they wish, then perform any divination or spell work needed. You may also elect to have a feast at this time. When all work and feasting is through, close the circle.
