Festival of the Great Goddess Nephthys
and the celebration of the bonds of friendship

by Nydia

This ritual is performed by two or more people and celebrates Nephthys in her role as friend and supporter of those in need. It should take place during the evening hours, after the sun goes down, and requires that all people stay within the boundaries of the sacred circle until the next morning. If possible, this ritual should be held at the Sanctuary of Nephthys.
WARNING: Performing this ritual WILL cause bonds to be established between all people involved. These bonds of friendship shall last beyond this lifetime. It is strongly advised that no one participate in this ritual unless they are 100% sure that they desire to create an eternal bond with every person who is participating.

Tools & Supplies Needed

1 large white pillar candle to use as the altar candle

1 pink taper candle per person

Crystal point for carving the candles

4 new Cardinal Point candles

Candle snuffer

Incense

Incense burner

Food and beverages (a pot luck feast is suggested)

Wood for Balefire

Preparations
At sunset, set up your area. Make sure everyone has a chair or blanket to sit or lay on around the balefire. Place the Cardinal Point candles and the altar candle in the center of the circle, near the balefire. Place all foods and beverages on a separate table at the edge of the space and make sure there are plenty of plates, glasses, silverware and napkins.

Everyone who is going to participate should be cleansed before beginning this ritual by being smudged by another person. Take turns waving a lit smudge stick over and around each other, making sure to smudge the soles of the feet and the palms of the hand as well.

When you are ready to begin, decide who will do which Cardinal Point. If you have to many, more than one person should call each quarter, if you do not have 4 people present, then someone goes twice.

Casting Sacred Space
Every person should kneel around the balefire, with a match or lighter in their hands. When ready all say together:
With Friendship strong, we light the flames of love.

Beginning with the North Cardinal Point, and going in turn, each Cardinal Point holder lights a cardinal point candle from the balefire and walks it to the cardinal point, where they place it on a rock or pedestal, and say the following words:
North: Powers of the Northern winds, I call to you. Bring to us the solidity of the Earth, so that we may rejoice in each others love

East: Powers of the Eastern Winds, I call to you. Bring to us the winds of change, so that our friendship may continue to grow and evolve.

South: Powers of the Southern Winds, I call to you. Bring to us the flames of passion, so that we may forever love each other.

West: Powers of the Western Winds, I call to you. Bring to us the calming waters, so that we may support and comfort each other when we are needed.
After each person has spoken, everyone should close their eyes and take a slow deep breath, knowing that they are breathing in the powers that have been called. When all are finished, they return to the balefire.

The Festival of Nephthys and Abiding Friendships

Each person should take a moment to carve the names or initials of all people present into their pink candle. When everyone has taken a turn doing this, then they all light their candles from the balefire and move to stand around the white altar candle. Together, they use their individual candles to light the altar candle, as one person says:

Together we perform an act that is as old as time itself.
As the Great Goddess Nephthys used her powers and love to comfort and support her sister and friend, Isis,
We now use our combined energies to strengthen each other within the bonds of the friendship and love that we all share for each other.

The person who lit the North Candle picks up the candle snuffer and says:

I trust in the love of my brothers and sisters.
Therefore, I no longer stand alone.

They snuff out their individual candle, place it between their feet and hand the candle snuffer to the next person, who does the same thing, and then takes the hand of the person before them, all around until everyone has snuffed out their candles, and everyone is holding hands. Together everyone raises their clasped hand high and says:

Thank you, Great Goddess Nephthys
for showing us the way to friendship
and leading us to each other.
May your name be praised for eternity.

These candles should be kept safe by all people present, as they have now been charged with the powers of each individual present, and can be used to bring those energies to you whenever you need them by simply lighting the candle.

Each person should work their way around the group and give each person a hug and a kiss, and tell them that you appreciate their friendship, and that you love them. This may sound silly, but it can really boost the energies of someone who is feeling angry, sad, lonely or confused.

Spend the rest of the evening chatting together and just relaxing and enjoying each others company. When you get sleepy, go to sleep, but stay within the circle. Allow the Cardinal Point candles to burn down, as well as the altar candle. Once everyone has gone to sleep, the Goddess shall protect you until you awaken the next morning, safe and secure in your solidified friendships.

The ritual is concluded, clean up your messes and take your pink candles home with you for future use.
