Feast of Hathor and Sekhmet

This Feast celebrates the two Goddesses who have tried to destroy mankind. We celebrate their actions in the hopes that they will find us worthy and shall never again attempt to destroy our world.

Everyone should dress in their best Ritual robes or clothing. These should all be clean and wrinkle free.

Set your Temple and Altar up in your normal manner, but add enough tables so that everyone can sit around them in a group. Have a table off to the side (but still within your circle) to hold the feast foods, which shall be served Buffet style. To begin, everyone takes their place for Casting Sacred Space, and that is performed in your most formal manner. Once you have done that, everyone should move to stand behind one of the place settings around the dining tables. Two extra places should be set, one for Hathor and one for Sekhmet. They should be given places of honor at your tables.

The High Priestess raises her arms and says a prayer of thanks:

We thank the Great Gods and Goddesses
for the bounty we are about to receive.

The High Priest says:

We honor the Great Goddess Hathor
and the Great Goddess Sekhmet
And thank them for not destroying mankind
In their anger.

Everyone fills their plates and return to the table, and sits down. Once everyone has gotten their food, and both Goddesses have been given a plate of food, everyone begins eating. Use your best table manners during this meal. If you are not sure what they are, then watch your High Priest or High Priestess and follow their lead.

During the meal, the High Priestess reads the following story of Hathor’s attempt to destroy the world.

The Great God Ra took on the form of man and became the first Pharaoh, ruling over the Two Lands for thousands and thousands of years. But, being in the form of man, Ra grew old, and in time, mankind no longer feared or obeyed him. Ra became angry and called the Great Goddess Hathor to his side. “Look upon the men of my land”, he commanded her, and she did. She saw mankind ignore the laws of Ra and desecrate his Temples.
Hathor went out into the world and began to slay mankind. She hunted down all those who plotted against Ra and killed them. The Great River Nile turned red with the blood of man. Ra looked upon the bodies that littered the Two Lands and ordered Hathor to stop. She did so, even as her belly was filled with the blood and gore of mankind.
On that night the Great Goddess Sekhmet was born.

The High Priest reads the story of Sekhmet:

Once again men forgot the lessons of the Gods and believed themselves to be greater than even the Great God Ra. Ra saw this and sent his daughter Sekhmet out into the Two Lands to destroy those who rebelled against him.
Sekhmet took the form of a lion and rushed to her prey, delighting in the slaughter and the blood. Once again the Great River Nile turned red from the blood of mankind.
Ra called to Sekhmet and asked her how she had obeyed him. She replied that her heart rejoices with the bloodshed of those who dared to disobey Ra. Ra looked out over the lands and saw the destruction Sekhmet had caused. He feared that she would completely destroy mankind, so he called her back to him. She refused and continued to kill all men she came across as she traveled the Two Lands. Ra called to all the Great Gods and Goddesses to help him stop Sekhmet, but none could.
Ra called for red ochre to be brought to him, and he mixed it with 7000 jars of beer. This red beer, he spread out over the land so that it resembled blood. Sekhmet saw the beer and thought it to be blood. She drank her fill and fell asleep. Ra took her sleeping body back to his palace and placed her in a soft bed. When she awoke the next day, he told her that she had fulfilled her duty well, but now it was time to stop. She agreed to cease the slaughter of men whom Ra found worthy, but she would continue to slaughter all those who neglected to worship the Gods and Goddesses of the Two Lands.
Ra agreed and made her his eye, so that she could search the hearts of men and discover those who would seek to place themselves above the Gods. Those she will slaughter at will.

During the meal, everyone is encouraged to ask questions regarding the story, or anything else that they do not understand in regards to their Faith, the Gods and Goddesses and the legends of the Two Lands.
When the meal is over, everyone stands behind their chairs once again. The High Priestess says:

We have enjoyed our fellowship together
And have listened to the stories
Of Hathor and Sekhmet
We pray that these Great Goddesses
Look into our souls and always find us worthy of life.

The High Priest says:

Great Goddess Hathor,
Great Goddess Sekhmet
We invite you to look into our souls
And see our love for you,
Our respect and our willingness
To serve you.
May your names live forever in the hearts of men.

And everyone says:

So let it be.

Now is the time to perform any spells or prayers or divinations the members of the Temple may need.

Close your circle in your normal manner, and clean up all messes. Place the plates of the Goddesses food outside as an offering to the wildlife near you.
