The Celebration of the Seven Goddesses

This ritual celebrates the seven Goddesses who reign over each of our lives. In their own words, they are:

I am Bast, the sunrise at the Dawn of your birth.

I am Sekhmet, the noon day sun which can nurture or kill.

I am Hathor, the sunset which brings forth the darkness.

I am Isis, the light of the moon which illuminates the labyrinth of life.

I am Nephthys, within the darkest of nights, my mysteries are revealed.

I am Neith, all that is hidden and unknown is mine. Walk my path if you dare.

I am Ma’at. It is against my symbol that your heart will be weighed in the Hall of Judgment.

There are several ways to celebrate these Goddesses, and several ways to divide them up within your sacred space.

The first three, Bast, Sekhmet and Hathor represent the daytime hours, the sun and the timeline of life.

The next three, Isis, Nephthys and Neith represent the night time hours, the moon and the knowledge you gain during your life.

The last, Ma’at, represents the final outcome of your life.

As a Rededication Ritual

In addition to the tools for Casting Sacred Space, you will need:
A journal and pen
Balefire with extra wood for keeping it burning till bedtime.
Additional light sources of some type.

This is an all day ritual, so make sure you use large candles for your cardinal points, or have several to replenish as needed. Plan to perform this ritual in a space where you can spend an entire day without having to leave the circle you shall cast. One way to accomplish this is to go camping and cast a circle around your entire campsite, (including the bathroom or latrine area). Make sure you have enough food and drinks to last you through the night. If your health allows, try to fast during this ritual, only drinking liquids.

Within Sacred Space, sit quietly and consider your life as it has unfolded to date. Each of the following meditations should last at least an hour.

Meditate upon the statue of the Great Goddess Bast while considering the circumstances of your birth and your childhood. Make a list in your journal of the happy memories you have as well as the unhappy memories.

Meditate upon the statue of the Great Goddess Sekhmet while considering the teenage years and the trials you have endured. Write in your journal the embarrassing mistakes you made then and how you overcame them.

Meditate upon the statue of the Great Goddess Hathor for the recent past. List in your journal the lessons you have learned and the lessons you think you still have yet to learn.

In between the daytime meditations, do what is needed to sustain yourself. Fix meals, eat, use the bathroom, write in your journal and so forth. In between the nighttime meditations, do what is needed to sustain yourself. Fix dinner, clean your area, prepare for bed, and light any lamps, torches or lanterns that you need.

At dusk, light your balefire and meditate upon Isis and the paths you have chosen in this life. Consider your career path as well as your spiritual path. Make a list of everything you dislike about all aspects of your life.

When it is well and truly dark, meditate upon Nephthys, and pray for guidance as you review the list of things you are unhappy with in your life. Consider how you can change those things to make your life better, and write down the steps you need to take to bring about those changes.

As the night progresses, just before you go to bed, meditate upon the statue of Neith. Make an offering to her and pray that she will guide you through the changes you have decided to make. When you settled in your bed, the last thing you should say out loud is the following prayer to Neith:

By Earth, Air and Spirit,
By Fire, Water and Smoke,
Great Goddess Neith,
I thee invoke.

Mistress of dreams,
Goddess of sleep
Lead me to thy realm
Our secrets safe to keep

Secrets of light
Mysteries of dark
Protect me from harm
Until I depart

Make sure your balefire is out, and your cardinal point candles can not possibly start a fire. Go to sleep, safe in the protective arms of the seven Great Goddesses. Most likely you will have some rather vivid dreams. Keep your journal handy by your bed and write down what you can remember immediately upon waking.

When you awaken the next morning, before doing anything else, rekindle your balefire and meditate upon the statue of the Great Goddess Ma’at. This is the Goddess whose symbol your heart shall be weighed against when you come to your souls judgment. Pray to her that your heart shall be judged lightly and that she will allow your soul to pass into the eternal Field of Reeds when your time has come to rest from the trials of this earthly life.

When this meditation is finished, fix your breakfast and offer half of it to the Goddesses. Place a plate with the offering on it in the outdoors to feed the animals nearby. Review the things you have written in your journal and resolve to make the changes you have set forth for yourself.

This ritual is finished.

As an Initiation Ritual

To use these Goddesses during an initiation ritual, have the initiate walk around the edge of your Circle, beginning in the East with Bast, and ending at the North, with Neith. Have female coven members represent the Goddess, and have them stand around the perimeter of your circle. It is not necessary for them to be at the Cardinal points, just space them equally around the circle from East to North.

Each Goddess could give the Initiate a small gift, such as a gemstone or a pouch of dried herbs, and/or ask a question. Some ideas for gifts can be found in the descriptions of each Goddess. Keep your questions simple and easily answerable, or supply the initiate with the answers if you choose to use riddles or more complex question.
