Celebration of Hathor

Hathor is a very old Goddess and has had many names and attributes associated with her throughout time. She was originally a Goddess of destruction, but over time has became known as a Goddess of merriment and dance, beauty and cosmetics, women and love, the fertility aspects of the sun and moon, nourisher of the dead, who supplies the celestial food for those who have passed, and Mistress of the Necropolis. She is similar to the Greek Goddess Aphrodite in many respects.

To celebrate the Ceremony of the Seven Hathors, plan a big party to be held within your Temple. Everyone should dress in their best formal robes and use whatever products they wish to look their best. Decorate your Temple as you normally would for any Festival. Have the statue of Hathor upon the altar, and statues of other Gods and Goddesses placed around the Temple. This Festival does not require you to cast Sacred Space, so do not place your Altar candle or cardinal point candles in their places. Instead, have non ritual use candles lit and placed throughout the Temple.

Make sure there are seats or benches placed around so people can sit if they wish, and have one area cleared as a place to dance. Have Egyptian music playing near the dance floor, but make sure it is not loud enough to cause conversations to be shouted. On your feast table, have some light foods and appetizers along with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Festivals to Hathor generally included a lot of drinking and sex. Be very careful of how much you allow your members to drink, or this festival could easily get out of control. If you don’t mind it turning into a drunken orgy, then go for it, but if you prefer something more toned down, then stay aware of how much people are drinking and have your Temple Guardian or High Priest escort those who become drunk to a place where they can pass out and sleep it off.

Once the party starts to wind down, all members who have not passed out yet should gather around the altar, holding hands and focusing their energies upon the statue of the Goddess.

The High Priestess should thank the Goddess for her presence in words something like these:
Great Goddess Hathor, Mistress of Life eternal
We thank you for your presence within our Temple
And ask that you join in future rites, which we shall hold
In your honor and for your glory.

The High Priest performs a grounding ritual and releases the circle.

If you have any members who have recently had a baby, this is perfect time to present the baby to the Goddess for the Ritual of the Seven Hathors. Make sure to perform this ritual before any drinking or partying occurs.
