Ceremony of Anubis

This Ritual takes place during a new moon, or whenever the skies are very dark, and honors the Great God Anubis in all his forms. This is a solitary ritual, so it is important to find a place where you can be alone for the period of time you will need to perform this Ritual.

Make sure you look at a five day weather forecast for the area you will be at. Nothing ruins a ritual more than an unexpected thunder storm, unless you are performing a ritual to Set.

In addition to the tools for casting Sacred Space, you will need the following:

Your Spiritual Journal

Pen

Knife

Flashlight (for emergencies only!)

A light lunch or snacks such as fresh or dried fruit, nuts, and/or cheese

A sleeping bag

A backpack with a mess kit, dinner items, first aid kit, toilet paper, rag, bottle of water, matches, and their ritual tools

A small tent

Your Staff

Prepare yourself for a difficult Festival. It is very important that you perform this ritual on land where you can be safe, not in a park or unknown area. If you must use a park, take a friend along and make sure they are in a nearby campsite with all the protection you might need available to them. That way, if you get bothered by dangerous animals or humans, they will be able to help you immediately. Begin in the afternoon a few hours before dark, so that you can find a campsite and set up before it turns dark.

Everything must fit into or on one backpack. Toss on the pack and start walking into a land that will provide you with a secluded, solitary spot to set up a small camp. It is best not to use an already established campsite, as this ritual is about living within that which is hidden and dismissing fears.

Keep walking until you find a nice spot to set up a small campsite. Set up your tent in as flat a spot as possible without having to change the area to much. You may have to pull or cut down some weeds or sticker bushes.

If you have brought foods that should be heated up, clear a spot to build a small fire. Use rocks to surround this place and gather up debris to use as firewood. This will be almost the only light you will have, so you might want to gather extra for the night.

Once it gets totally dark, sit beside your camp fire and listen to your surroundings. Try to identify each sound you hear and make a list of them in your journal. If you wish to Cast Sacred Space with a formal ritual, do so now. Alternatively, you may simply wish to visualize a cone of protection forming around you.

Spend quite awhile staring into the coals of your fire and letting your mind drift. Record in your journal each insight as it comes to you, and any fears that develop. If you are afraid of the dark, this may not be the best ritual for you to perform, however, it will help you to confront that fear and deal with it.

That’s what this ritual is all about, confronting hidden ideas, issues and fears that shall reveal themselves to you during the dark of the moon. Allow yourself to express any emotions that you feel. Go ahead – talk to yourself, or scream, or cry if you need to. All that is required is that you let your soul be honest with you, and that you will hear that truth.

Stay at your fire until you simply can’t keep your eyes open anymore, then make sure it is banked for the night, and enter your tent and crawl into your sleeping bag. Forget the tent and sleep on the ground next to your fire, if you dare. Make sure to bring your spiritual journal and a pen with you and keep the emergency flashlight handy too. That way you can write down the details about any dreams that you have right after you awaken from them.

The next morning, eat whatever foods you have left and repack everything. When you are ready to leave, the site should as though you were never there. Hike back out to your car or home and think about what was revealed to you over the night and write up what you have learned in your spiritual journal.
